It was another busy Tuesday!

This morning during Math we continued to work on the application of ratios, where students used diagrams and tables again to model and solve ratio problems. In Language, students continued in their groups to finish filling out a plot diagram for the story, All Summer In A Day. For Art, students worked on either spooky door design or finished their haunted house sketches for our mixed medium activity. Students received their first research assignment in History. For this assignment, each student has chosen a historical figure and they will be researching why their person was important to the formation of New France or British North America. Students will the do a 1-2 minute presentation on their historical figure. We ended the day with a school fire drill practice and then used our FLEX period to work on any homework.

Homework:

Math: Finish questions 3-4 on pg. 36 in the Math workbook.

Language: Finish the plot graph for the story All Summer In A Day. Due tomorrow.

Science: Work on Shoebox Ecosystem assignment. Only two weeks left!

 What a busy and productive day! Today in Math, students watched videos about chequing and savings accounts. We had a great class discussion about provincial and federal taxes and investigated a table that illustrated the percentage of taxes in different provinces and territories. All "MART" Geometry Transformation Assignments are due tomorrow. Please make sure you hand it in. For Language, students continued working on their rough outline for their formal, opinion-based letter. This letter is connected to the Farm Project and is for students to request a loan to build their farm. Some students have finished their rough outline for their letters and are now taking what they wrote and are now putting it into a proper formal letter format. This is due Monday! It was a great start to the week! Who doesn't love Pi? I don't mean the dessert, I mean the mathematical theory of Pi! Students were introduced to this concept today and how regardless of diameter lengths, the circumference of a circle will always be 3.14159265359.... times the measured diameter. We are challenging the students to test this theory on 3 different-sized circles. They need to document their testing via pictures and videos and then create an infographic or slideshow to demonstrate their learning. Students were busy during Language, taking their main points with supporting details and writing them into a proper paragraph. We have been working on our class opinion essay about "Should we have to wear a school uniform?" Tomorrow we will look at putting all our paragraphs together to create the body of our essay.  It was a productive end to our first full week of school! For Math, students practiced how to find the greatest common factor (GCF) of two numbers, as well as, the lowest common multiple (LCM). During Language, students began interviewing their partners for their Classmate Biography assignment.  We had another hilarious time during Gym with our cooperative games and the students trying to solve the HUMAN KNOT! In Science, we explored the relationship between Biotic and Abiotic factors. Finally during French, students spent time researching the topic of choice. Homework: Math: Finish questions 1-5 on pg. 8-9 in the Math workbook. Language: Those who have NOT finished the Letter to Yourself or the comprehension questions for the Milton Hershey biography need to hand it in on Monday.  Students please remember to bring 2-3 pictures of yourself when you were younger for your partner to use on their presentation.
