Where did the day go?!

This morning during Math, students finished drawing themselves as a Minecraft character using isometric dot paper. Tomorrow they will measure each body part and calculate the surface area and volume of the entire figure. We had our Insanity Plea mock trial today for Language! Previously, students were broken into two groups (Prosecution or Defense), where each group treated The Tell-Tale Heart as a written confession and used the document to prove whether the Villain of the story has a mental illness. Today, members of each group came forward as lawyers to either defend the Villain of the story or prosecute him. Each group used quotes from the story to back up their arguments. In the end, it was the defence who won the trial, as they had more quotes and arguments. Afterwards during Art students finished their final drawing for our Odilon Redon charcoal assignment. After lunch, during History, students learned about the Expulsion of the Acadians by the British. We ended the day with a FLEX period where students continued to work on their art assignments or any other unfinished homework.

Homework:

Math: Finish drawing a Minecraft self-portrait (character) on isometric dot paper. Minecraft characters must be fully coloured.

History: Finish questions on the Expulsion of the Acadians.

 What a busy and productive day! Today in Math, students watched videos about chequing and savings accounts. We had a great class discussion about provincial and federal taxes and investigated a table that illustrated the percentage of taxes in different provinces and territories. All "MART" Geometry Transformation Assignments are due tomorrow. Please make sure you hand it in. For Language, students continued working on their rough outline for their formal, opinion-based letter. This letter is connected to the Farm Project and is for students to request a loan to build their farm. It was a great start to the week! Who doesn't love Pi? I don't mean the dessert, I mean the mathematical theory of Pi! Students were introduced to this concept today and how regardless of diameter lengths, the circumference of a circle will always be 3.14159265359.... times the measured diameter. We are challenging the students to test this theory on 3 different-sized circles. They need to document their testing via pictures and videos and then create an infographic or slideshow to demonstrate their learning. Students were busy during Language, taking their main points with supporting details and writing them into a proper paragraph. We have been working on our class opinion essay about "Should we have to wear a school uniform?" Tomorrow we will look at putting all our paragraphs together to create the body of our essay.  It was a productive end to our first full week of school! For Math, students practiced how to find the greatest common factor (GCF) of two numbers, as well as, the lowest common multiple (LCM). During Language, students began interviewing their partners for their Classmate Biography assignment.  We had another hilarious time during Gym with our cooperative games and the students trying to solve the HUMAN KNOT! In Science, we explored the relationship between Biotic and Abiotic factors. Finally during French, students spent time researching the topic of choice. Homework: Math: Finish questions 1-5 on pg. 8-9 in the Math workbook. Language: Those who have NOT finished the Letter to Yourself or the comprehension questions for the Milton Hershey biography need to hand it in on Monday.  Students please remember to bring 2-3 pictures of yourself when you were younger for your partner to use on their presentation.
