A snowy Thursday for some creative classroom work!
This morning during Math we continued using our fraction strips to help us add fractions. This time students learned how to use fraction strips combined with a number line when the sum of the fraction is greater than one whole. We started Language with each group from yesterday reading their description of Preston Street. For their next creative writing task, students are learning how to describe a character. For this writing activity, students had to pick their favourite pencil and describe it with as much detail as possible. This writing activity will be used for a game tomorrow where students will see if they can identify each other's pencils based on the descriptions written. Afterwards for Art, students continued designing their own Kaiju for our Operation: Kaiju activity. Once students have finished sketching and colouring their Kaiju, they will sculpt it out of air-dry clay. For History, we learned about the Royal Proclamation of 1763. We had some great class discussions about how this treaty was an attempt by the British to create peaceful relations with the First Nations People after taking land that belonged to them. This Proclamation acknowledged the right of First Nations people to their land and gave them land west of the Appalachian Mountains. We ended the day with a FLEX period where students got to work on any unfinished assignments.
Homework:
