It was a slow, sleepy start for a Monday, but we still got work done!
This morning during Math we learned that you can use the same order of operations for decimals as you would for whole numbers. After reviewing "BEDMAS", students learned to do the operations in brackets first; then divide and multiply, in order, from left to right; then add and subtract, in order, from left to right. We continued to work on our Utopia Project in Language. Students were busy today creating their own utopia using a graphic organizer. Afterwards, they will be creating a brochure to advertise their utopia. Students were also introduced to their first "Quick Write" for our novel study. For each "Quick Write", students are given an opinion-based writing prompt, based on a topic or an idea that is covered in the novel. For Gym, students played their first game of curling and are practising to get ready for our curling tournament this Thursday. We did another experiment in Science this afternoon. Using both hot and cold water, students observed and recorded the dissolving rate of granulated salt. We ended the day with a FLEX period where students got to work on any unfinished assignments.
