Another productive Tuesday!

We started a new unit in Math today on Data Management. Today we learned how to calculate the Mean, Median, and Mode from a set of numbers. We worked on our second Quick Write for our novel study on The Giver. Today's Quick Write was about Adulthood and whether a 12-year-old is old enough to be considered an adult. Students were asked to write about what they would gain from being an adult and what they would lose from being an adult. Afterwards, we worked on some vocabulary from the novel. For Art, we designed and created our own bookmarks to use with our novel study. Students worked on drawing and colouring their bookmarks. Next Art class, we will be laminating our bookmarks!  After lunch, we had an assembly with the whole school. The assembly was for the student council where a few grade 7 students who are running for different positions in the student council, prepared speeches to present to the school. We ended the day with a FLEX period where students got to work on any unfinished assignments.

Homework:

Math: Finish question 1 on pg. 98 in the Math workbook.

Language: Finish Quick Write on Adulthood. Read chapters 1-2 of The Giver. We will be discussing both chapters in class. 

Health: Your Mental Health Poster is now due.

 What a busy and productive day! Today in Math, students watched videos about chequing and savings accounts. We had a great class discussion about provincial and federal taxes and investigated a table that illustrated the percentage of taxes in different provinces and territories. All "MART" Geometry Transformation Assignments are due tomorrow. Please make sure you hand it in. For Language, students continued working on their rough outline for their formal, opinion-based letter. This letter is connected to the Farm Project and is for students to request a loan to build their farm. Some students have finished their rough outline for their letters and are now taking what they wrote and are now putting it into a proper formal letter format. This is due Monday! It was a great start to the week! Who doesn't love Pi? I don't mean the dessert, I mean the mathematical theory of Pi! Students were introduced to this concept today and how regardless of diameter lengths, the circumference of a circle will always be 3.14159265359.... times the measured diameter. We are challenging the students to test this theory on 3 different-sized circles. They need to document their testing via pictures and videos and then create an infographic or slideshow to demonstrate their learning. Students were busy during Language, taking their main points with supporting details and writing them into a proper paragraph. We have been working on our class opinion essay about "Should we have to wear a school uniform?" Tomorrow we will look at putting all our paragraphs together to create the body of our essay.  It was a productive end to our first full week of school! For Math, students practiced how to find the greatest common factor (GCF) of two numbers, as well as, the lowest common multiple (LCM). During Language, students began interviewing their partners for their Classmate Biography assignment.  We had another hilarious time during Gym with our cooperative games and the students trying to solve the HUMAN KNOT! In Science, we explored the relationship between Biotic and Abiotic factors. Finally during French, students spent time researching the topic of choice. Homework: Math: Finish questions 1-5 on pg. 8-9 in the Math workbook. Language: Those who have NOT finished the Letter to Yourself or the comprehension questions for the Milton Hershey biography need to hand it in on Monday.  Students please remember to bring 2-3 pictures of yourself when you were younger for your partner to use on their presentation.
