It was a busy Friday!

This morning for Math, students continued working on completing their Unit 4 Test Review. There was a lot of great collaboration between students to prepare each other for Tuesday. For Language, students presented their Utopia Assignments and worked on their Quick Writes. We had some wonderful presentations happening today with great class discussions. For Gym, our curling unit sadly is finished. We picked back up Tchoukball and had a fun-filled class scrimmage. We are preparing for our intramural Tchoukball Tournament next week. Our Take Home Projects were due today during Science. Some of the students began demonstrating their learning of Pure Substances and Mixtures. One student experimented with vinegar and baking soda to demonstrate solutions and mixtures. We are excited to see what all the students come up with for presenting their learning! We ended the day with a FLEX period where students got to work on any unfinished assignments.

Homework:

Math: Study Math Review for the test on Tuesday. 

Language: The Utopia Project and Short Story Assignment are now due. Your first "Quick Write" on Perfection is also due. 

Science: Your take-home science project is now due. 

Art: Please complete your Kaiju write-up for Tuesday. 

Health: The mental health posters are due Monday.

 What a busy and productive day! Today in Math, students watched videos about chequing and savings accounts. We had a great class discussion about provincial and federal taxes and investigated a table that illustrated the percentage of taxes in different provinces and territories. All "MART" Geometry Transformation Assignments are due tomorrow. Please make sure you hand it in. For Language, students continued working on their rough outline for their formal, opinion-based letter. This letter is connected to the Farm Project and is for students to request a loan to build their farm. Some students have finished their rough outline for their letters and are now taking what they wrote and are now putting it into a proper formal letter format. This is due Monday! It was a great start to the week! Who doesn't love Pi? I don't mean the dessert, I mean the mathematical theory of Pi! Students were introduced to this concept today and how regardless of diameter lengths, the circumference of a circle will always be 3.14159265359.... times the measured diameter. We are challenging the students to test this theory on 3 different-sized circles. They need to document their testing via pictures and videos and then create an infographic or slideshow to demonstrate their learning. Students were busy during Language, taking their main points with supporting details and writing them into a proper paragraph. We have been working on our class opinion essay about "Should we have to wear a school uniform?" Tomorrow we will look at putting all our paragraphs together to create the body of our essay.  It was a productive end to our first full week of school! For Math, students practiced how to find the greatest common factor (GCF) of two numbers, as well as, the lowest common multiple (LCM). During Language, students began interviewing their partners for their Classmate Biography assignment.  We had another hilarious time during Gym with our cooperative games and the students trying to solve the HUMAN KNOT! In Science, we explored the relationship between Biotic and Abiotic factors. Finally during French, students spent time researching the topic of choice. Homework: Math: Finish questions 1-5 on pg. 8-9 in the Math workbook. Language: Those who have NOT finished the Letter to Yourself or the comprehension questions for the Milton Hershey biography need to hand it in on Monday.  Students please remember to bring 2-3 pictures of yourself when you were younger for your partner to use on their presentation.
