It was a great start to the week!

This morning during Math we continued with our second unit review on fractions and decimals. As a class, we went over any questions that students were unsure about. We will be writing our "Mission Impossible" (math test) tomorrow. We continued with some great Utopia presentations today during Language. Both presentations were well thought out and the presenters were able to answer all of the customer concern questions. During Art, students are wrapping up their Kaiju clay sculptures and their write-ups. They are all looking GREAT so far and we are excited to start the presentations for these on Wednesday! In History, we started learning about the formation of Upper and Lower Canada. Lastly, we finished the day off with some Take Home Science Project presentations and we will continue these tomorrow!

We want to give a shout-out to two of our students whose team came first place in the Floor Curling Tournament last week! Congratulations Izzy and Lukas!

Homework:

Math: Study Unit Review for Mission Impossible tomorrow. 

Language: Your first quick write is now due. This Google Document has been emailed to you. 

Art: Your Kaiju write-up is due this Wednesday.

Health: Your Mental Health Poster is now due. Please make sure it is handed in before the end of the week. 

Science: Practice your Science Project presentation if you have not done yours yet.

 What a busy and productive day! Today in Math, students watched videos about chequing and savings accounts. We had a great class discussion about provincial and federal taxes and investigated a table that illustrated the percentage of taxes in different provinces and territories. All "MART" Geometry Transformation Assignments are due tomorrow. Please make sure you hand it in. For Language, students continued working on their rough outline for their formal, opinion-based letter. This letter is connected to the Farm Project and is for students to request a loan to build their farm. Some students have finished their rough outline for their letters and are now taking what they wrote and are now putting it into a proper formal letter format. This is due Monday! It was a great start to the week! Who doesn't love Pi? I don't mean the dessert, I mean the mathematical theory of Pi! Students were introduced to this concept today and how regardless of diameter lengths, the circumference of a circle will always be 3.14159265359.... times the measured diameter. We are challenging the students to test this theory on 3 different-sized circles. They need to document their testing via pictures and videos and then create an infographic or slideshow to demonstrate their learning. Students were busy during Language, taking their main points with supporting details and writing them into a proper paragraph. We have been working on our class opinion essay about "Should we have to wear a school uniform?" Tomorrow we will look at putting all our paragraphs together to create the body of our essay.  It was a productive end to our first full week of school! For Math, students practiced how to find the greatest common factor (GCF) of two numbers, as well as, the lowest common multiple (LCM). During Language, students began interviewing their partners for their Classmate Biography assignment.  We had another hilarious time during Gym with our cooperative games and the students trying to solve the HUMAN KNOT! In Science, we explored the relationship between Biotic and Abiotic factors. Finally during French, students spent time researching the topic of choice. Homework: Math: Finish questions 1-5 on pg. 8-9 in the Math workbook. Language: Those who have NOT finished the Letter to Yourself or the comprehension questions for the Milton Hershey biography need to hand it in on Monday.  Students please remember to bring 2-3 pictures of yourself when you were younger for your partner to use on their presentation.
