April 19th and 20th

As we have begun our new Math Unit on Measurement and Perimeter, students are investigating how to calculate the area of various polygons (i.e., parallelograms, triangles, trapezoids, etc.). To do this, students are working on a problem-based - "How much soil does P need for their garden?". Check out the pictures below! We read chapter 20 of The Giver after the first break. As a class, we worked on reading comprehension strategies such as making predictions, summarizing, and asking questions they have of a text. We also discussed where our last chapter would be located on a plot graph. Check out the picture below! For Art, students continued working on the Videos For Change. All students have been emailed video editing programs that they can use on their computers. We will need their grown-up's help to approve these apps on their child's devices because some have a parental control setting. In Science we continued "What is a structure?" and we discussed the difference and relationship between "Form and Function" of structures. Students need to have pages 4 - 6 complete. For Geography, students are working on labelling and outlining a Map of Canada. This map is an important assignment for their Geography mark.

Tomorrow, our school will be engaging in various Earth Day activities, which is on Saturday, April 22nd. We are asking families to send their student to school dressed according and with sunscreen and we will be spending the afternoon outside.
