It was a bit of a soggy Monday!

Students continued exploring the area of a triangle by testing “Jack’s Theory”. We are seeing if this theory works with other types of triangles, so students learned how to use a protractor to create an Obtuse Triangle at a 115-degree angle. They measured the base and height and then tried different area equations to see if they worked. We will be drawing more triangles tomorrow to also test the theory! For Language, we discussed more conflicts found in The Giver and then started our introduction to essay writing. Since students are writing a persuasive essay, we looked at how an essay is an argument. As a class, they were given the question, do you think students should have to wear a school uniform? In groups, students had to come up with three reasons why they thought we should or shouldn't have to wear a school uniform. We then took up our reasons as a class. Afterwards, for our Health class, we started our introduction to substance use. Today we brainstormed as a class about different types of substances that people use, both legal and illegal. For Science, we finished off our class discussion on static and dynamic loads. Students were then introduced to our Tower Building Challenge. Working in pairs, students will design and build the tallest standing tower using only tooth pics and small marshmallows. The winning tower will have to stand for at least 10 seconds before falling over. After Science, students learned about water systems in Geography. Today students were introduced to river systems and drainage patterns.

Homework:

Language: Give one example for each type of conflict found in The Giver.

Geography: Work on Landform Assignment. Due Friday.
