It was a fun and productive Thursday!

As we are ending our unit on all things circles, students showed their stuff today by working on various circle questions. This was their last class day to complete this challenge! During Language, students worked hard on completing their essays. Part of their task today was to use an editing checklist to review their writing. Please have them printed and handed in for tomorrow morning so we can watch the movie. After Language, we transitioned to Art. Students are completing their symmetry art assignment using a picture of their choice. This afternoon we had a fun time working on our Bridge Building Challenge! Students are using their knowledge of forces, loads, and structures to have their bridge span an 80 cm gap, hold a water bottle, and have a toy car drive across it. Tomorrow we are testing them! Tomorrow is Dress Down Day! Students are allowed to wear school-appropriate clothing of their choice.

Homework:

Language: Finish final touches on the essay. Essays are due tomorrow!

Science: Complete Ensuring Structural Safety questions - pg. 28-29

Geography: Complete Vegetation Changes questions.

Art: Videos for Change is due tomorrow.

Health: Exploring Substances presentation is due tomorrow.

 What a busy and productive day! Today in Math, students watched videos about chequing and savings accounts. We had a great class discussion about provincial and federal taxes and investigated a table that illustrated the percentage of taxes in different provinces and territories. All "MART" Geometry Transformation Assignments are due tomorrow. Please make sure you hand it in. For Language, students continued working on their rough outline for their formal, opinion-based letter. This letter is connected to the Farm Project and is for students to request a loan to build their farm. Some students have finished their rough outline for their letters and are now taking what they wrote and are now putting it into a proper formal letter format. This is due Monday! It was a great start to the week! Who doesn't love Pi? I don't mean the dessert, I mean the mathematical theory of Pi! Students were introduced to this concept today and how regardless of diameter lengths, the circumference of a circle will always be 3.14159265359.... times the measured diameter. We are challenging the students to test this theory on 3 different-sized circles. They need to document their testing via pictures and videos and then create an infographic or slideshow to demonstrate their learning. Students were busy during Language, taking their main points with supporting details and writing them into a proper paragraph. We have been working on our class opinion essay about "Should we have to wear a school uniform?" Tomorrow we will look at putting all our paragraphs together to create the body of our essay.  It was a productive end to our first full week of school! For Math, students practiced how to find the greatest common factor (GCF) of two numbers, as well as, the lowest common multiple (LCM). During Language, students began interviewing their partners for their Classmate Biography assignment.  We had another hilarious time during Gym with our cooperative games and the students trying to solve the HUMAN KNOT! In Science, we explored the relationship between Biotic and Abiotic factors. Finally during French, students spent time researching the topic of choice. Homework: Math: Finish questions 1-5 on pg. 8-9 in the Math workbook. Language: Those who have NOT finished the Letter to Yourself or the comprehension questions for the Milton Hershey biography need to hand it in on Monday.  Students please remember to bring 2-3 pictures of yourself when you were younger for your partner to use on their presentation.
