It was a great start to the week!
Who doesn't love Pi? I don't mean the dessert, I mean the mathematical theory of Pi! Students were introduced to this concept today and how regardless of diameter lengths, the circumference of a circle will always be 3.14159265359.... times the measured diameter. We are challenging the students to test this theory on 3 different-sized circles. They need to document their testing via pictures and videos and then create an infographic or slideshow to demonstrate their learning. Students were busy during Language, taking their main points with supporting details and writing them into a proper paragraph. We have been working on our class opinion essay about "Should we have to wear a school uniform?" Tomorrow we will look at putting all our paragraphs together to create the body of our essay. Inspired by P's awesome Math class on circles, for Art we have decided to explore Mandala's, focusing on symmetry with the designs. We ended the day with Science where students were given their next building challenge for our unit on structures. This afternoon students were tasked with designing and building the tallest tower made out of spaghetti and marshmallows. Working in groups, students were given 45 min to design and build their spaghetti towers. You can check out our pictures below to see all of the interesting designs that the students used when building their towers!
Homework:
Science: Finish the Spaghetti Tower Building questions. (Due Friday) The Tower Building questions for the toothpick and mini marshmallows are also due.
Geography: Geography: The Landform Assignment and Water System questions are now due.
