The weather wasn't always the nicest, but it was still a productive Wednesday!

Today, during Math, students researched different savings accounts at various banks in Ottawa. We were analyzing what savings accounts have the best overall package - interest rates, monthly fees, transaction fees, e-transfer fees, etc. Students will continue this tomorrow. They will create a table and choose 4-5 savings accounts to compare. For Language, students started to work on their rough outline for their formal, opinion-based letter. This letter is connected to the Farm Project and is for students to request a loan to build their farm. Students spent the period coming up with environmental and business-related reasons as to why their farm should be built. Afterwards, for Art, we spent the period finishing off our oil pastel picture of a tulip, focusing on different blending techniques. Now that students have completed the conceptualization of the Farm in Geography, they are putting together a slideshow all about the different features to present to the class next week. We ended the day with Science, where some students presented the Ergonomics advertisement. 

Homework:

Math: "MART" activity is due Friday.

Language: Movie Poster and Reflection Questions are now due.

Science: Ergonomic Advertisement is now due.

Geography: Farm Conceptualizing is now due.

Art: Practice your Dance! Videos are Due on June 15th.

 What a busy and productive day! Today in Math, students watched videos about chequing and savings accounts. We had a great class discussion about provincial and federal taxes and investigated a table that illustrated the percentage of taxes in different provinces and territories. All "MART" Geometry Transformation Assignments are due tomorrow. Please make sure you hand it in. It was a great start to the week! Who doesn't love Pi? I don't mean the dessert, I mean the mathematical theory of Pi! Students were introduced to this concept today and how regardless of diameter lengths, the circumference of a circle will always be 3.14159265359.... times the measured diameter. We are challenging the students to test this theory on 3 different-sized circles. They need to document their testing via pictures and videos and then create an infographic or slideshow to demonstrate their learning. Students were busy during Language, taking their main points with supporting details and writing them into a proper paragraph. We have been working on our class opinion essay about "Should we have to wear a school uniform?" Tomorrow we will look at putting all our paragraphs together to create the body of our essay.  It was a productive end to our first full week of school! For Math, students practiced how to find the greatest common factor (GCF) of two numbers, as well as, the lowest common multiple (LCM). During Language, students began interviewing their partners for their Classmate Biography assignment.  We had another hilarious time during Gym with our cooperative games and the students trying to solve the HUMAN KNOT! In Science, we explored the relationship between Biotic and Abiotic factors. Finally during French, students spent time researching the topic of choice. Homework: Math: Finish questions 1-5 on pg. 8-9 in the Math workbook. Language: Those who have NOT finished the Letter to Yourself or the comprehension questions for the Milton Hershey biography need to hand it in on Monday.  Students please remember to bring 2-3 pictures of yourself when you were younger for your partner to use on their presentation.
