Today was filled with smiles, cookies and a little fun in the sun! Today marked the final day for students to create a budget that aligns with their long-term goals. In class, students were taught some useful tips for using Google Sheets, which proved to be an effective tool for budget creation. During our Language class, we continued with our popular "Hero's Journey" activity. Yesterday, we watched Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse and broke down the 12 steps of the hero's journey for Miles Morales. The students then used the same steps to create their own slideshow for a movie they watched at home. Upon completion, they will be using HeroForge to create their own hero. In the afternoon, we visited the "Bread By Us" bakery and took a tour. The students were thrilled to sample various cookies, with the double chocolate cookies being the clear favourite. What a fun and productive day! This morning during Math, students continued planning their budget to determine which phone plan best suits their needs based on their yearly wage that was determined earlier in class. To follow up on yesterday's lesson on the Hero's Journey, we watched the animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Tomorrow we will look at how young Miles Morales follows his own journey to answer the call and become his own version of Spider-Man. Students will then demonstrate their understanding of the Hero's Journey by explaining the 12 stages using the hero from the movie they watched as homework for this mini-assignment. We ended the day with students giving their farm pitch, including a slideshow presentation, for a loan from the Bank of Clark! Homework: Language: Watch your favourite "epic" movie. Great start to the week! This morning for Math, we started "Part 3" of our "Saving for a Smartphone" Financial Literacy Unit. Our last assignment was to decide on a phone plan that best suits our needs based on the yearly wage we made and budget. Students will continue planning their budget tomorrow and determine which phone plan works best for them. For Language, students continued to work on a good copy of their letter to the bank to ask for a loan for the Farm project. During Gym, students played many Ringetter games. We had a blast putting all the skills we had been practicing and developing to work. Good job everyone! The first part of the afternoon was dedicated to presentations. Students presented both the Ergonomic advertisements for Science and their Invasive Species posters for Geography.  We ended the day learning about the 6 elements of epic stories, found in novels, poems and movies.  What a busy and productive day! Today in Math, students watched videos about chequing and savings accounts. We had a great class discussion about provincial and federal taxes and investigated a table that illustrated the percentage of taxes in different provinces and territories. All "MART" Geometry Transformation Assignments are due tomorrow. Please make sure you hand it in. For Language, students continued working on their rough outline for their formal, opinion-based letter. This letter is connected to the Farm Project and is for students to request a loan to build their farm. Some students have finished their rough outline for their letters and are now taking what they wrote and are now putting it into a proper formal letter format. This is due Monday! The weather wasn't always the nicest, but it was still a productive Wednesday! Today, during Math, students researched different savings accounts at various banks in Ottawa. We were analyzing what savings accounts have the best overall package - interest rates, monthly fees, transaction fees, e-transfer fees, etc. Students will continue this tomorrow. They will create a table and choose 4-5 savings accounts to compare. For Language, students started to work on their rough outline for their formal, opinion-based letter. Students spent the period coming up with environmental and business-related reasons as to why their farm should be built. It's been a really fun Tuesday! Students spent the morning during Math finishing off their Geometry "MART" assignment. Students were completing their rough copies of their transformation sheets and then traced their shapes onto a blank sheet of paper to create their geometric designs! We had a lesson on formal letter writing during Language. Today students learned the format of a formal letter, as well as, the different components needed to write an opinion-based letter. Afterwards, for Gym, students got into their groups to work on their dance project. Today was the Monster Club tie-dye event! Students spent the rest of the afternoon outside, hanging out with friends and making some really cool tie-dye designs on their white Monster Club shirts!
