 Happy Friday! It's been a great end to the week! We finished off our second unit review in Math this morning. Students will be writing their first Math test on Tuesday, October 4. We took a break from Language to have a meaningful class conversation about the National Truth and Reconciliation Day. We had a very mature discussion about the treatment of First Nations children in residential schools. We ended the discussion looking at singer/songwriter Gord Downie's song Secret Path, about Chanie "Charlie" Wenjack, a twelve year old boy who died fifty years ago, during his flight from the Cecilia Jeffrey Indian Residential School, near Kenora, Ontario.  We spent the next two periods outside in the sunshine playing an epic game of soccer/baseball.  It was a busy Thursday! This morning we continued working on our second unit review in Math. Students are getting prepared for their first Math test next Tuesday, October 4th. For Language, students were busy working on completing their graphic organizer for the Biography of a Famous Person assignment. We got back to creating some more creepy artwork, just in time for October! Students were continuing to create their ink (black paint) blot creatures, based on the monster from the novel Hide and Seeker . For this assignment, students place a drop of watery black paint onto a piece of paper and then using a straw, try to blow the paint around the page to create their own creepy image. We had an interesting History class where students got to examine a map of Canada from 1713 and compare it to a more recent map of Canada from 1999-2001.  Half way through the week! We started our second unit review in Math. We will be continuing this review the rest of the week. Students continued to research and fill our their graphic organizer for their Biography of a Famous Person assignment. Students should now have five of the slide questions answered and filled out using proper sentences. We continued with our epic game of co-operative handball in Gym! Students learned about Biomass Pyramids and how energy is passed from producers to consumers. Ended the day with French, where students worked on their independent projects.  A solid Tuesday of learning! This morning, students finished their first unit review on Patterns in Whole Numbers in their Math workbook. For Language, students chose a famous person to research and started taking notes for their Biography of a Famous Person graphic organizer. We had a chill Art period where students decorated their art folders. We will be continuing our creepy art project, based on the novel Hide and Seeker , next class. During History, we explored the historical background of the Metis and learned about their daily life practices.  Homework: Math: Finish questions 7-10 on pg. 19-20 in the Math workbook. Language: Complete the first two sections on the Biography of a Famous Person slideshow graphic organizer.  History: Finish the three questions on the Metis. Science: Finish Food Chain questions.
 It was a great start to the week! This morning students started their first unit review in the Math workbook on Patterns and Whole Numbers. We will be working on our unit reviews all this week. Today was the last of our Classmate Biography presentations. Students did a great job presenting their posters and slideshows. For Gym, students continued playing cooperative handball. We continued our lesson on Food Chains within an ecosystem, where students had to create their own food chain based on an ecosystem of their choice. Ended the day with French where students continued to work on a topic of their choice. Homework: Math: Finish review questions 1-6 on pg. 19-20 in the Math workbook. Language: Come up with TWO ideas of someone to research for the Famous Person Biography assignment that we will be starting tomorrow.  History: Complete the four questions on the Inuit. Science: Complete the Food Chain assignment for their chosen ecosystem.

Happy Friday! It was a nice end to the week. This morning during Math students looked at how a pattern rule describes a pattern of numbers. Students then looked at different number patterns to solve. We continued with our Classmate Biographies during Language. Students did a great job showing off their posters that they made their partners life. We will finish our Classmate Biographies on Monday. Today was the Terry Fox Run at Heritage and the grade 7's walked down to the Arboretum and back to show our support. Each student wore a sticker where they wrote a name of someone who they were walking for. We finished the day with History, learning about our second Indigenous group that European explorers had contact with, the Inuit. We learned about early Inuit culture and how they acted as guides, traders and taught the Europeans how to survive in the cold northern climate. It was a productive Thursday! Today in Math students learned about exponents. Students practiced how to write an exponent in expanded form, as well as, standard form (answer). We had our first round of Classmate Biographies during Language. Students did a great job telling the class a short biography of their partner. We will be continuing the Classmate Biographies tomorrow. During Gym, students practice playing cooperative handball. Finally in Science, students explored food chains and how nutrients and food are passed from species to species. Homework: Math: Finish questions 1-7 on pg. 14-15 in the Math workbook. Language: Classmate Biography is due. This should be presented in the form of a poster or slideshow. Students are encouraged to practice their presentation. History: Finish questions on the Haudenosaunee. Science: Finish questions on Food Chains.

 It's been a busy day of school! We continued and finished working on questions in Math, where students had to find the square root of a number. Language was super busy with students finishing either their poster or slideshow for their Classmate Biography assignment. Finally, in History students learned about the Haudenosaunee, how they are part of the Six Nations Confederacy and learned about their daily life during the time when they first made contact with European explorers.    Homework: Math: Finish questions 3-8 on pg. 12-13 in the Math workbook. Language: Classmate Biography presentations are tomorrow! Make sure that poster or slideshow is ready to present. History: Finish four questions on the Haudenosaunee.

 Although it was overcast outside all day, we had some bright minds working in class today! For Math we looked how when a number is multiplied by itself, the product is a square number. Students then practiced finding the square root of a number. It was a busy Language period as students were interviewing their partners and starting to prepare their Classmate Biography in the form of either a slideshow or poster. Students practiced more cooperative games in Gym. During Science, students continued to examine how biotic and abiotic elements contribute to an ecosystem. Students had to draw an ecosystem and label the different biotic and abiotic elements. Ms. P drew a great example on an ecosystem on the board for the class! We ended the day with French, where they continued to work on a topic of their choice. Homework:  Math: Finish questions 1-2 on pg. 11-12 in math workbook. It was a rainy, sleepy Monday, but we got through it! Students continued to work on finding the greatest common factor (GCF) or the lowest common multiple (LCM) of two numbers in Math. For Language, students continued to interview their partner for their Classmate Biography assignment. Since we're reading the Hide and Seeker as a class, we started our first creepy art project based on the monster from the novel. Using a straw, students drip watery black paint onto a page and then blow through the straw to spread the paint like black tendrils, creating their own monster! Finally, during History we finished off our Heritage Minute videos from Historica Canada and students wrote about the significance of each video.  Homework: Math: Finish questions 1-8 on pg. 8-10 in the Math workbook. Language: Make sure you bring in your baby pictures by tomorrow. Students should be finishing their interviewing by tomorrow. Classmate Biography is due by the end of  Wednesday, September 21 .

 It was a productive end to our first full week of school! For Math, students practiced how to find the greatest common factor (GCF) of two numbers, as well as, the lowest common multiple (LCM). During Language, students began interviewing their partners for their Classmate Biography assignment.  We had another hilarious time during Gym with our cooperative games and the students trying to solve the HUMAN KNOT! In Science, we explored the relationship between Biotic and Abiotic factors. Finally during French, students spent time researching the topic of choice. Homework: Math: Finish questions 1-5 on pg. 8-9 in the Math workbook. Language: Those who have NOT finished the Letter to Yourself or the comprehension questions for the Milton Hershey biography need to hand it in on Monday.  Students please remember to bring 2-3 pictures of yourself when you were younger for your partner to use on their presentation. Happy International Dot Day! In Math today we worked in groups to tackle word problems on exact and estimate numbers. For Language we began interviewing our partners for our Classmate Biography assignment, which is due Wednesday, September 21st . For Art, students created their "Dot Day" masterpieces to celebrate creativity, courage and collaboration! Heritage is taking all classes artwork to create a school collage!  A productive day, as the class had lots of energy! In Math today we looked at how to identify whether the numbers that we look at are exact or estimates. For Language we had a great class discussion on how biographies are written in chronological order, starting with the person's early life or childhood. Students then received their first assignment, the Classmate Biography. For this assignment, students were paired up and each student will interview and present to the class a mini biography of their partner. For Gym, students attempted the HUMAN KNOT for our cooperative games! In Science, we explored biodiversity within an ecosystem. Finally, for French students brainstormed a topic of their choice that they want to explore. Homework: Math: Finish questions 1-4 on pg. 6-7 in the Math workbook. Language: Milton Hershey comprehension questions are due on Friday. Letter to Yourself is now due.

It was a bit of a sleepy day with the weather changing through out the day. We had a productive Math class where students worked on the mental math skills and divisibility rules. For Language we checked out online Milton Hershey's school that was founded in 1909. Students then we continued working on our comprehension questions based on our short biography on the life of Milton Hershey. During Art, students finished off their designs for our homemade sticker project. Some students began making their designs into stickers. Finally, in History we finished watching the docudrama: A Peoples History - Battle for a Continent - 1754 - 1775. A bit of a sleep Monday, but we got through it!  We started our first unit in Math called Patterns in Whole Numbers. Students practiced rounding numbers and multiplying by 10, 100, 100. We read our last short biography on Milton Hershey and then started working on the comprehension questions. For Gym we started our unit on Cooperative Games and reviewed safety expectations. During Science we discussed what makes an ecosystem and the relationship between living and non-living organisms. Students also had their first French class today, where they worked on an activity to describe themselves.   Homework: Math: Finish questions 1-5 in your Math workbook on pg. 4-5. Language: Your good copy of your Letter to Yourself is now due. All the comprehension questions about Frida Kahlo and Greta Thunberg are due. Science: Answer questions on What is an Ecosystem? (4 questions) French: Come up with a topic for something you want to explore during French class.

  We successfully finished our first week of school! Today in Math students worked on their 5x5 multiplications and then finished working on their Math assessments to hand in. During Language we had a great discussion about biographies and then read two short biographies on Frida Kahlo and Greta Thunberg. Students then completed some comprehension questions about both biographies. We started reading the novel Hide and Seeker , which was read to the students while they worked on designing their own stickers for Art. Students were introduced to their first unit in History: New France and British North America 1713-1800 and then we started the docudrama: A Peoples History - Battle for a Continent - 1754 - 1775.

Great third day of school! For Math students started the period with their 5x5 multiplication practice and then moved onto a Math assessment to gauge what they remembered from last year. In Language, students were finishing up their Letter to Yourself.  We started our cooperative games unit in Gym and then played Chuck the Chicken! During Science we had a great class discussion about students previous knowledge about the environment and how humans impact it. We ended the class with a classic Bill Nye episode on biodiversity. Reminder! The Letter to Yourself is due tomorrow for Language.  
Great second day of school!  We spent the day developing more routines for the classroom. During Math, students were introduced to our morning routine of the 5x5 challenge to practice their multiplications. For Language we discussed the format for writing a proper paragraph. Students then began working on a Letter to Themselves. In Art, students began drawing their designs to make their own stickers. We had a great class discussion during History about why we study our past and whether it is important that we remember our history. Finished off the day with a hang out at the park and a soccer/base ball game! Reminder! Students were given a Math questionnaire to bring home, that needs to be finished for tomorrow.

Welcome Grade 7's and their Guardians to the Ultimate Grade 7 Blog! This blog will be used to post updates on the events of the day and what we covered each of our subjects. We will also be posting dues dates and assignments Today we discussed what makes a fun and respectful classroom environment. As a learning community, we created together as a class our own code of conduct (classroom rules), as well as, how we would like to be treated within the classroom. Finally, students created a name for our learning community - The Wolf Pack!
