Last blog post of the year! This morning we tried out some "matchstick" brain teasers for Math. For Language, we tried a fun activity where students created their own "blackout" poetry. After lunch, we had a bit of a Christmas celebration in our class, where we got moving playing some "Just Dance" and singing karaoke. We ended the day with the grade 6's for some Holiday activities and cheer in the gym.  Homework: None! Happy Holidays!

It was a fun-filled Wednesday! This morning Grades 7 and 8 students joined forces to compete in a badminton tournament, organized by the always awesome Ms. P! Some grade 7's were paired up with grade 8 students to play against other teams. We watched the final match as a group and in the end, everyone had a really fun time! After lunch, we watched a Bill Nye video on Atoms and Molecules to introduce our next unit in Science, Substances and Mixtures. We ended the day with History, where students finished working on their The Fall of New France Newspaper Assignment.  Homework: Science: Finish questions on pg. 40 (green duo-tang) about buying locally-grown food. Students are to list the names of food products purchased for home and what country they are from. History: Finish writing the "WHEN", "WHERE", and "HOW" sections of the graphic organizer for the Fall of New France Newspaper Assignment. This newspaper assignment is due tomorrow!

Another busy Tuesday! This morning during Math we took up our Math test (Mission Impossible) on Geometry and Measurement. Students corrected any questions that they got incorrect. We had our puppet shows for the Readers Theatre version of The Tell-Tale Heart . Both groups did a fantastic job designing their puppets and creating a voice for their character. Both performances were hilarious and really fun! For Gym, students continued practising different badminton drills. After lunch, we continued working on our The Fall of New France Newspaper Assignment for History.  Students spent the period researching and began writing their article about the Battle of the Plains of Abraham from a French perspective. We ended the day with a FLEX period where students got to work on any unfinished assignments.  Homework: Science: Finish questions on pg. 40 (green duo-tang) about buying locally-grown food. Our last Monday of the 2022 school year! This morning we continue our intro to Fractions where students coloured and cut out different pattern blocks to create their own mosaics. Through their mosaics students were able to recognize how different shapes fit into each other, demonstrating fractions. Today was our last read-through for the Readers Theatre version of the Tell-Tale Heart. Students worked on their character voices and staging for their performance tomorrow! For Art, we followed along with another "Learn to Draw" video; this time we learned to draw a Christmas Baby Grogu. After lunch, we started our next History assignment, The Fall of New France Newspaper Assignment. For this assignment, students are to pretend that they are a reporter for The Quebec City Chronicle and they are to write an article about the Battle of the Plains of Abraham from a French perspective. It was a snowy Friday! We had a smaller class today with students staying home due to the weather, so this morning we played some Math games and then after the first break we followed along with some "Learn to Draw" videos and then played badminton. After Lunch, we watched an episode of the nature documentary Our Universe . We finished the day playing the ever-popular The Werewolves of Miller Hollow . Homework: Language: Practise reading over the script for the Reader's Theatre version of  The Tell-Tale Heart . It was a great Thursday for getting things done! To continue with our intro to Fractions, students coloured and cut out different pattern blocks and fraction strips. We will be using them to demonstrate our understanding of different fractions. For Language, students continued to work in their groups, practicing their lines and working on their character voices. Afterwards for Art, we finished off our charcoal activity for the Tom Waits song "What's He Building in There?" We then as did a drawing video together where we learned how to draw an "Elf on the Shelf". For History, we finished off our lesson and questions about the aftermath of the Battle of the Plain of Abraham and the fall of New France. Another productive Wednesday! We started our introduction to our next unit in Math, Fractions and Decimals. To introduce students to the concept of fractions, students used pattern blocks to make their own mosaics and understand how certain shapes (blocks) fit into each other. For Language, students got back into their groups and started working on some of the feedback to help improve their performance. During Gym students learned the rules of badminton and then began playing doubles. After lunch, for Science, we continued to learn about protecting the environment. This time we looked at sustainable food choices, including growing your own food, buying locally and eating less meat. It was another productive Tuesday! This morning students wrote their "Mission Impossible" (Math Test) on our unit about Geometry and Measurement. After the break, students watched a video of themselves performing a dry run of their puppet show. We then discussed where they thought they could improve their performance and what to work on before our next performance. For Art, we finished our final charcoal assignment based on the Tom Waits song "What's He Building In There?" After lunch, we had History and learned about the aftermath of the Battle of the Plain of Abraham and the fall of New France. Another Monday was taken down! We did a final review in class on geometry and measurement this morning during Math. Using their whiteboards, students answered questions about finding a prism's surface area and volume. For Language, students practised performing their play with their puppets. We filmed each performance so the students could see how they did and understand what they needed to work on. During Gym, students continued learning the fundamentals of playing badminton and practised footwork drills. They then practiced hitting their birdie over the net toward targets (hula hoops) on the ground. After lunch, during Science, we continued to learn about protecting the environment. This time we learned about Integrated Pest Management (IPM), which is a strategy used to increase the production of crops while minimizing the damages caused by pests. We made it to Friday! We started the morning with some "matchstick" brain teaser in Math. We then took up the answers for our second unit review and corrected any mistakes. During Language, students worked in their groups, reading over the script for the Reader's Theatre Tell-Tale Heart. Students are now practising performing with their puppets. For Art, we took a break from our charcoal drawing assignment and had a chill day learning how to draw the Creature from the Black Lagoon. Ended the day watching a Bill Nye episode for Science on Pollution Solutions.  Homework: Math: Study unit review for Math test.  Language: Practice reading over script for the Tell-Tale Heart.
Today just flew by! This morning we completed our second unit review on Geometry and Measurement for Math. For Language, students got into their groups, finished constructing their puppets and then practised reading through their script for The Tell-Tale Heart. During Gym, students continued learning the fundamentals of playing badminton and practised footwork drills. After lunch, during Science, we continued learning about ways to protect the environment. We also had a great class discussion about the COP 15 conference that's being held in Montreal with the goal to preserve and protect both land and water ecosystems. We ended the day with the Grade 7's showcasing their shoebox ecosystems to the Grade 4 class.  Homework: Math: Finish questions 5-7 of the unit review (handout). It was a wet Wednesday, but we stayed productive! This morning during Math we started our second unit review on Geometry and Measurement. Students worked on finishing up creating their puppets and started working on a backdrop for the Reader's Theatre version of The Tell-Tale Heart . Afterwards for Art, students finished the good copy of their Odilon Redon-inspired charcoal drawing. We then started drawing rough sketches for our final charcoal assignment based on the Tom Waits song "What's He Building In There?" We had a great History class on the Seven Year's War and the battle at the Plains of Abraham. Lots of great class discussions about General James Wolfe and his strategy to capture Quebec City! We ended the day with FLEX and a body break with Just Dance! Homework: Math: Finish questions 1-4 of the unit review (handout). Science: Finish questions on electric vehicles. 
It was a productive Tuesday! This morning we continued with our first unit review in Math or Geometry and Measurement. After the break, students got into their groups for the Tell-Tale Heart puppet show and began creating their puppets. During Gym we played another epic game of Boom City. For Science, we learned about protecting the environment through the conservation of energy. Students then researched the benefits and disadvantages of electric vehicles. To get out our energy, we ended the day by moving ourselves to songs on Just Dance!  Homework: Math: Finish questions 5-6 on pg. 67-68 in the Math workbook. Science: Finish questions on electric vehicles.

Happy Krampusnacht! For Math this morning we started our first unit review on Geometry and Measurement. Students will be preparing for the "Mission Impossible" (Math test) next week. During Language, students broke into their groups and worked more on their character voices while they read over their scripts. S tudents continued in Art to work on their good copy of their Odilon Redon-inspired charcoal drawing. This is their last week to work on this art activity. After lunch, we had a very thoughtful debate during History class about the expulsion of the Acadians. The class was split into two groups where one group represented the British and the other group was the Acadians.  Using their notes on the expulsion of the Acadians, each group had to create an argument about who should have the right to occupy the lands of Acadia. It was a fun Friday! This morning students finished off their Minecraft activity and then we played some Math games. We went to the Book Fair after the first break and then students worked on their character voices for their role in the Reader's Theatre version of The Tell-Tale Heart . After lunch, students finished researching Canadian organizations that protect endangered species. Students then presented their organization to the class and discussed how they protect endangered species. We ended the day playing the ever-popular The Werewolves of Miller Hollow game! Homework: History: Finish questions on the Expulsion of the Acadians. Finish points for the Acadian debate.
We had a fun Thursday! Heritage Academy's Scholastic Book Fair was in full swing today and some of the grade 7 students helped with setting up and running the fair. This morning students finished off their equations for their Minecraft characters in Math. Students had to figure out the surface area and volume of their character. Students got to try out their character voices in Language when they did their first read-through of the Reader's Theatre version of The Tell-Tale Heart. For Art, students continued to work on their good copy of their Odilon Redon-inspired charcoal drawing. During Science, we researched the various organizations that are Canadian and doing their part to protect endangered species and ecosystems. We ended the day with a History activity that's tied to our lesson on the Expulsion of the Acadians.
