Happy Friday! This morning for Math, we continued with our graphing activity. This time students used their data to find the mean, median, mode and range. For Language, we continued to work on our vocab and character analysis of The Giver. For Art, students are now working on the storyboard for their Video for Change project. After lunch, we had a great class discussion on the different battles that took place in Canada and the United States during the War of 1812. We ended the day with a FLEX period where students got to work on any unfinished assignments. Homework: Language:  Quick Write on Colour. Complete vocab words 1-30. It was a nice sunny day for learning! This morning  Students continued their survey and graphing assignment by making two graphs of their choice to display their collected data. Many students used this website to make a pie chart: https://www.meta-chart.com/pie . For Language, we read chapters 9 and 10 of The Giver . Students then worked on their next Quick Write: Colour.  As we are continuing our Yoga Unit students learned the moon salutation today. The moon salutation is known to help with stress and anxiety because of its calming and soothing poses. For History, we finished our lesson on the Causes of the War of 1812. We had some great class discussions on how the British used blockades to prevent Americans from trading their good with Europe. We ended the day with a FLEX period where students got to work on any unfinished assignments. Homework: Language:  Quick Write on Colour. Complete vocab words 1-30.
We were really focused today! This morning for Math students took the data that they collected and presented it in a graph of their choice. We will be finishing presenting our data in graph form tomorrow. For Langauge, we continued working on our Quick Writes, and vocabulary and then worked as a class on our character analysis. For Art, students worked in their groups on their Video for Change project. Today we learned how to storyboard our video, learning about close-up and wide shots. We started our introduction to the War of 1812 in History. Today we learned about the four main reasons that America decided to declare war on British North America and invade Upper and Lower Canada. It was a fun day of learning! This morning during Math,  Students investigated different types of graphs and why they would choose those graphs based on the data collected. Next, students choose which graph they felt would best represent the data they collected from their survey question and begin displaying their results. They are to create two separate graphs to display their data. We read chapters 7 and 8 of The Giver today in Language. We had a great class discussion about whether it would be safer if society made decisions for us like clothing, spouses and what job you would get. We then started our next Quick Write on the topic of Safety. For Gym we continued with Yoga, focusing on positions Sun Salutations Sequence A & Sequence B. For History, we continued to examine the relationship between the Metis, the new Scottish settlers and the Hudson Bay Company. A solid start to the week! This morning during Math, students created their own survey questions and then went around and asked their classmates and students from the grade 6 class to collect their data. For Language, we continued working on our Quick Writes, vocabulary, jobs assignments and character analysis for our novel study on The Giver . Afterwards for Art, students began planning for their group project on Videos for Change. Students have now picked a social issue that they want to bring awareness to using a one-minute video. During History, we looked at Metis and settler relations since the establishment of British North America. Today we looked at the Pemmican Proclamation and the Battle of Seven Oaks. We ended the day with a FLEX period where students got to work on any unfinished assignments. Homework: Language: Complete vocab words 1-18 and finish Quick Write on Complaints. History: Finish writing about the Pemmican Proclamation or the Battle of Seven Oaks.

Happy Friday! For Math this morning we continued looking at recording data and how to present the data using a tally chart, bar graph or pictograph. Students then started to create a survey question for their own to display as a bar graph. For Language, we read chapters 5 & 6 of The Giver . We had some great class discussions on the topic of "sameness" which is used in the novel. For Gym, students continued with yoga and the Sun Salutations position. We participated in an insightful and informative workshop by Get REAL. This workshop was to help our school with fostering an inclusive environment and learn about Black History Month while focusing on anti-racism. Homework: Math: Have a survey question for Monday. Language: Read chapters 5 & 6 of The Giver . Finish Quick Write on Complaints. History: Complete the four questions on the Establishment of Upper Canada.
It's been a rainy Thursday! This morning during Math we continued with our new unit on Data Management. Today students learned that there are different ways to record data. We learned that you can display data using a tally chart, bar graph or pictograph. For Language, we continued with our novel study of The Giver . Students worked on some vocabulary from the novel, where they were given new words and had to find their definitions. During Art, we started working on our Video for Change project. Students formed groups of 3-4 and needed to pick a social issue they wanted to bring awareness to using a short one-minute video. We finished off our questions in History about the Establishment of Upper Canada and ended the day with a FLEX period where students got to work on any unfinished assignments. Nothing but positive vibes for this Wednesday! This morning, we continued with the introduction to our unit on Data Management in Math. Today students looked at collecting data and how to identify whether the data is primary or secondary. We also learned how to ask unbiased questions when collecting data. We read two more chapters of The Giver for our novel study. We then worked on our next Quick Write; this time the topic was about the elderly. For Gym, students continued to practise mindful meditation and learned their first yoga pose, Morning Sun Salutations. For History, we continued to learn about the Establishment of Upper Canada. Students worked in groups to answer questions about the formation of York and Bytown. We ended the day with a FLEX period where students got to work on any unfinished assignments. Another productive Tuesday! We started a new unit in Math today on Data Management. Today we learned how to calculate the Mean, Median, and Mode from a set of numbers. We worked on our second Quick Write for our novel study on The Giver . Today's Quick Write was about Adulthood and whether a 12-year-old is old enough to be considered an adult. Students were asked to write about what they would gain from being an adult and what they would lose from being an adult. Afterwards, we worked on some vocabulary from the novel. For Art, we designed and created our own bookmarks to use with our novel study. Students worked on drawing and colouring their bookmarks. Next Art class, we will be laminating our bookmarks!  After lunch, we had an assembly with the whole school. It was a great first day back from March Break! We started the day working on some Matchstick puzzles in Math. Afterwards, our Fractions and Decimals "Mission Impossible" (test) was handed back. After going over some of the questions, students were asked to take their mark and turn it into a percentage. We started our novel study for The Giver during Language today. We read the first two chapters together and had some great class discussions on what students noticed about the society in the story and how it differs from our society. For Gym, we did an intro to yoga and meditation. For today, students were introduced to yoga, with an activity on how to relax and be mindful of their breathing. Next class, we will learn our first yoga pose, Morning Sun Salutations! After lunch, we continued with our Science presentations on Pure Substances and Mixtures. Happy Friday! It's been one awesome day! We started the morning by continuing with some more fantastic presentations in Science, where students  demonstrated their learning of Pure Substances and Mixtures.    Today is Ms. Poulin's birthday, so after the first break, we spent the rest of the day hanging out and celebrating! As a reward for finishing off our Operation: Kaiju project, we watched Godzilla: King of the Monsters . We had an EPIC time watching Godzilla square off against his arch-rival King Ghidorah! The kids watched in awe as these giant monsters battled it out around the world. It was also really fun showing some students their very first Godzilla movie. During the movie, we also had a pizza party, complete with birthday cupcakes! Afterwards, we spent the rest of the day playing board games. Thursday? Sounds more like Fun Day! We started our day with Math, working in groups, and trying to solve different Sudoku challenges. Each group was given a different challenge while solving the Sudoku puzzles. For example, one group had to solve a puzzle together, but they couldn't speak. We finished off our Utopian project with the teachers creating a utopia of their own together. The utopia was a perfect blend of cute and creepy! After the initial structures of a sports complex combined with Dr. Frankenstein's laboratory tower were drawn, the students took turns coming up to the whiteboard to help add to the utopia. It was a fun collaboration with the whole class, where everyone added elements to the utopia that represented both Ms. P and Mr. Aaron. You can check out the sweet utopia below! Happy International Women's Day!  We started our day with a thoughtful class discussion about International Women's Day and why it's important to recognize this day. Students then worked on creating stickers to help promote and bring awareness to this important day. We continued with our Utopia presentations during Language. Each utopia brochure that was presented today was very thoughtful and well-designed.  Today was also the big reveal for our Operation: Kaiju art project. For the next couple of periods, we did a class safari where students displayed their sculptures and then introduced us to their giant monsters. To set the mood for our Kaiju presentation, we used the Godzilla theme music as a soundtrack while each student explained their Kaiju's size, location, powers, weaknesses and any other interesting facts. What a busy Tuesday! We started the day with students writing their "Mission Impossible" (Math Test) on fractions and decimals. Afterwards, students worked on finishing writing their background information about their Kaiju for the Operation: Kaiju assignment in Art. Now that our mini-unit on curling is over, we went back to playing Tchoukball in Gym. Students got to play some Tchoukball games to get them ready for a mini-tournament on Thursday. After lunch, we continued with our Take Home Science Project presentations.  We ended the day with a FLEX period where students got to work on any unfinished assignments. Homework: Language: The Quick Write on Perfection is due.  This Google Document has been emailed to you.  Art: Your Kaiju write-up is due tomorrow. Health: Your Mental Health Poster is now due. It was a great start to the week! This morning during Math we continued with our second unit review on fractions and decimals. As a class, we went over any questions that students were unsure about. We will be writing our "Mission Impossible" (math test) tomorrow. We continued with some great Utopia presentations today during Language. Both presentations were well thought out and the presenters were able to answer all of the customer concern questions. During Art, students are wrapping up their Kaiju clay sculptures and their write-ups. They are all looking GREAT so far and we are excited to start the presentations for these on Wednesday! In History, we started learning about the formation of Upper and Lower Canada. Lastly, we finished the day off with some Take Home Science Project presentations and we will continue these tomorrow! It was a busy Friday! This morning for Math, students continued working on completing their Unit 4 Test Review. There was a lot of great collaboration between students to prepare each other for Tuesday. For Language, students presented their Utopia Assignments and worked on their Quick Writes. We had some wonderful presentations happening today with great class discussions. For Gym, our curling unit sadly is finished. We picked back up Tchoukball and had a fun-filled class scrimmage. We are preparing for our intramural Tchoukball Tournament next week. Our Take Home Projects were due today during Science. Some of the students began demonstrating their learning of Pure Substances and Mixtures. One student experimented with vinegar and baking soda to demonstrate solutions and mixtures. It's been a super busy Thursday! We started our day working on our second unit review in Math. Students had to choose and complete five questions on fractions and decimals for today. We will be having our Math test on Tuesday, March 7th. For Language, students had 20 minutes to practise and go over their Utopia brochure. We then started our presentations where students described their perfect utopia. The presentations so far were very thoughtful and the class came up with some great questions to ask the presenter about their utopia.  After Language, Heritage held a curling tournament for all the junior grades. Organized by the AMAZING Ms. P, grades 2-5 played against each other in teams and grades 6-8 played against each other in teams. It was a really fun afternoon, where students showed a lot of great teamwork! It's been a fun and productive Wednesday! We continued this morning working on our first unit review in Math. Students helped each other out with solving both fraction and decimal equations. After the first break, students worked really hard on finishing the final details for their utopia brochure. This past week, students have been creating their own personal utopia and are now putting together a tourist brochure to present. We had a lot of fun playing curling games during Gym. Students have been practising and getting ready for our mini-curling tournament tomorrow. We continued with our Factors Affecting the Rate of Dissolving experiments in Science. This time students observed how long it would take for rock salt, both clumped and crushed, to dissolve in both hot and cold water.
