It was a busy Monday! Today in Math we started a financial literacy unit on 'Consumer Awareness', particularly with savings accounts and interest rates. We started our unit by creating a plan for ways to make money as a Grade 7 student and how to save our money. Tomorrow, we will be comparing different types of savings accounts and interest rates. For Art, students continued to demonstrate different oil pastel techniques with their Tulip picture. After our lunch break, students spent the next two periods working on their Farm Conceptualization for Geography and their Ergonomic advertisement poster for Science. It was a great end to the week! This morning, we worked on our transformations art component for the Geometric "MART" summative task. Students worked on taking their images and transforming them using translation, reflection and rotation. We continued working on creating their Movie Poster based on a novel of their choice that has yet to be made into a movie. We played some 3:3 Ringette games for Gym, focusing on their passing and receiving skills. We continued to work on our Ergonomics assignment for Science. Students are now putting together an advertisement poster, showcasing their new product. We ended the day with Geography, where students are adding some finishing touches to their Farm Planning Project. Homework: Language: Movie Poster and Reflection Questions are due Tuesday. Science: Ergonomic Advertisement due Monday. Geography: Farm Conceptualizing due Monday. Art: Practice their Dance! Videos are Due on June 15th.
It was great getting outside today! This morning we continued our Geometric "MART" summative task. Students created their own cartesian plane and image they will use for this activity and plotted the points of the original image. Next, we began doing various transformations (translation, reflection, rotation). Students should be finishing up their transformations and being their art tomorrow. For Langauge, students continued their Movie Poster assignment. Their movie poster and reflection questions are due Tuesday, June 13th. Today, students started a new art assignment which was creating an oil pastel drawing of a tulip from a picture they took when we went to the Tulip Festival. This afternoon students continued working on their Farm Planning Project and their advertisement for an ergonomic design they created using an already existing item that they find uncomfortable (i.e. desk, chair, game controller, etc.). Both of these assignments are due Monday, June 12th. Homework: ...
It was another day when we were stuck indoors due to poor air quality outside. But, that's ok. It didn't dampen our spirits or productivity! This morning we continued our Geometric "MART" summative task. Students created their own cartesian plane and image they will use for this activity and plotted the points of the original image. Next, we began doing various transformations (translation, reflection, rotation). For Language, students began their Movie Poster Assignment. They are required to choose a book they like that has not already been made into a movie and create a movie poster for it. For Gym/Health, we had one Health presentation done from their Exploring Substances Project and then we went to the gym to learn more Ringette skills. Today, students practiced tricks on how to steal the ring, proper spacing and cutting for strategic gameplay, and then we applied these skills in a mini-game. To end the class we did a shoot-out! This afternoon students continued w...

It was a great start to the week! Today was our last day investigating different transformations on a cartesian plane before we begin our "MARTH" (Math & Art) summative task tomorrow. Students have math homework tonight to prepare them for this new project. Please check the homework below. In Language, we compared various book covers and movie posters of The Giver . The student's task today was to answer the comparison questions of the book and movie covers that they liked the best. This is due tomorrow. It was another hot day while learning! Yesterday, during Math, students worked in pairs to complete their translation transformation activity. After, we began exploring reflections on a cartesian plane. We learned about the line of reflection, hope to flip shapes, as well as, how to plot the new coordinates. Today, students worked on various reflection activity questions. After examining how the characters and setting were different between the novel and the movie The Giver, we now looked at the differences in the plot. Students spent the period answering reflection questions. We continued with our unit on ringette.
