It's been a rainy Wednesday. This morning during Math students measured the Minecraft characters that they drew and began figuring out their surface area and volume. We introduced our final activity for our short story unit in Language. Working in two groups, students will be putting on a puppet show based on The Tell-Tale Heart! Today we figured out each group and which character they will each play. For Gym, students began learning the fundamentals of playing badminton and practised footwork drills. After lunch, students began learning about endangered species during Science. They will begin researching organizations that work to save endangered species around the world. We ended the day with a FLEX period, where students worked on any unfinished assignments. Homework: Math: Finish finding the surface area of the Minecraft character. Where did the day go?! This morning during Math, students finished drawing themselves as a Minecraft character using isometric dot paper. Tomorrow they will measure each body part and calculate the surface area and volume of the entire figure. We had our Insanity Plea mock trial today for Language! Previously, students were broken into two groups (Prosecution or Defense), where each group treated The Tell-Tale Heart as a written confession and used the document to prove whether the Villain of the story has a mental illness. Today, members of each group came forward as lawyers to either defend the Villain of the story or prosecute him. Each group used quotes from the story to back up their arguments. In the end, it was the defence who won the trial, as they had more quotes and arguments. Afterwards during Art students finished their final drawing for our Odilon Redon charcoal assignment. After lunch, during History, students learned about the Expulsion of the Acadians by the British. We...

A great start to the week! This morning we did something a little different for Math. While still focusing on geometry, students were given an art/math activity. Students will draw themselves as a Minecraft character using isometric dot paper. This self-portrait must be done using 3d geometric shapes, like rectangles and squares. Once their self-portrait is completed, they will measure each body part and calculate the surface area and volume of the entire figure. Today was the last day for students to prepare their case for our Insanity Plea activity in Language. Each group is now preparing their case for our mock trial tomorrow! For Gym, students continued with their epic game of Boom City. After lunch, we continued with our questions about the "carrying capacity" of an ecosystem. We ended the day with FLEX where students worked on any unfinished assignments. Homework: Language: Make sure you have found a quote from The Tell-Tale Heart and two reasons for the Insanity Plea...

Each group is now preparing their case for our mock trial next week. For Gym, students continued with their epic game of Boom City. After lunch during Science, students learned about the "carrying capacity" of an environment and how the maximum population it can support is based on the food, water, and resources available. We ended the day with a FLEX period, where students got to work on any homework. Homework: Math: Finish question 1 on pg. 62 in the Math workbook. A great start to the week! This morning, during Math, students learned how to find the surface area of a rectangular prism and that the surface area is the sum of the areas of its rectangular faces. To find the surface area of a rectangular prism students used the following formula: SA = 2lh + 2lw + 2hw. During Language, students continued to work on their court cases against the Villain from The Tell-Tale Heart for the Insanity Plea activity. Broken into two groups (Prosecution or Defense), each group treats The Tell-Tale Heart as a written confession and uses the document to prove whether the Villain of the story has a mental illness. For Gym, students continued their epic game of Boom City. For Science, students learned about ecological succession and how this is the process by which different species and habitats in an area change over time. We ended the day with an environmental case study of how a volcanic eruption will cause an ecological succession. Homework: Math: ...
